Questions To Ask Your Wedding DJ Before Hiring

Questions to Ask When Hiring Your Wedding DJ

Are you available on my date?

This seems like an obvious question, but we frequently get enquiries without any date. If you know your date, make sure you include it when enquiring with any potential wedding DJ services to ensure they are still available for your day.

Do you perform at more than one event per day?

At Premier DJs we do, but each DJ is allocated to just one event per day. Some companies and DJs will try and squeeze more than one event in per day. This is not ideal as it not only will give you a DJ that might be exhausted from their previous event, but doesn’t give you peace of mind that they will be there on time for your event.

Have you done events at my venue before?

This isn’t a deal breaker, as we frequently provide our services to venues we have never been to before, but if it is a venue we are familiar with then it’s even better because we know what to expect and you know that we are familiar with your venue.

Are there any other services you provide?

We are mostly booked for our DJ service only, but we can add MC services, dancing on a cloud effect, name in lights (custom monogram) and sparkulars. All options you can consider adding later once you have locked us in for our DJ service (pending availability of course).

Can you help us choose the music?

Absolutely! Some couples want to choose all their own music, others want some guidance and suggestions which we are happy to help you with that we have seen work at other weddings to keep everyone having a great time.

Do you take breaks?

Other than a break to eat we don’t take breaks. When we do take a break, we ensure the music doesn’t stop. We curate a great cue of music to keep the ambience alive whilst we leave to quickly grab our meal.

Can you be the MC?

Absolutely! We give you the option to be your MC when you book with us so that your friends and family can relax whilst we adhere to your run sheet and make all announcements.

What style of MC are you?

We believe a good MC should say what they need to say and no more. We are not constantly on the microphone (which is just plain annoying). Less is more is our policy. Having someone talk too much is not only distracting, but when an important announcement is to be made people have become so used to hearing the MC ramble on that they don’t pay attention.

Do you take requests from our guests?

That’s up to you. As long as you are happy for us to do so we are more than happy to take requests. Of course, we act as the gate keeper to ensure any inappropriate requests are not played.

Can we give you a “Do Not Play” list?

Yes! In fact, we encourage it. We allow you to let us know the music and artists you really don’t want to hear on your special day.

Does your fee include the setup and break down time?

Yes. How ever many hours you book us for is that many hours of “play time”. We don’t charge you extra or include in your booking time the time it takes us to set up or break down the equipment.

Do you provide a written contract?

Yes. This is important as it protects you and you can clearly see and agree to what you are getting for the day. Always get a written contract from all your suppliers for your wedding day for your own protection so you know what you are agreeing to.

How far in advance should I book you?

This is a difficult one to answer. Whilst we have a good number of DJs on our team, some popular dates fill very quickly whilst other dates we might only have one or two events on that date. A good rule of thumb is to book us as soon as you know we are the company you wish to engage rather than wait until it’s too late and we are all booked out.

Are you insured?

Yes. All our team members are insured for public liability, which is actually a legal requirement. If you find a DJ that does not have this insurance, they are breaking the law. Ensure they have insurance as many venues will ask for proof of insurance before allowing the DJ onto the site. You don’t want to get this news on your day that they couldn’t allow your DJ because they didn’t have insurance!

Do you set up a sign or a banner promoting yourself?

No. There is nothing more tacky than seeing a DJ with self-promotion banners at an event they are being paid for. If anyone wants to get our information, all they need to do is approach the DJ who will happily give them one of our business cards.

What is our deadline for submitting our music requests?

You have full access to your own online planning portal up to 14 days prior to the event. This ensures we have time to get any music we need that we don’t already have. Of course, we are still happy to work with you beyond this 14 day prior period, but can’t guarantee we will have the time to get the music and licence it.

Does the DJ require a meal?

We request that the DJ gets a vendor meal. These are usually charged by your venue at a lower rate. Because the DJ is there for many hours (including the time travelling to your venue, setting up and then breaking down the equipment) it is always requested that the DJ is given an option for a meal.

We hope these questions are helpful for you when short listing the potentials for your DJ for your event. We welcome you to contact us with any questions you might have
