Best Place to Set Up Your DJ

This might sound obvious but … right next to the dance floor.

However, it’s amazing how many times we are disappointed to find that the dance floor has been set in the middle of the room with the DJ pushed up against a far wall. This is a recipe for disaster for you and your guests.

Why DJ Placement Matters

Because during dance time, the speakers are far away from the dance floor where you want to hear the music clearly. However, due to most venues having noise restrictions, we can only push it so loud and by the time you have walked to the dance floor the music has lost its “oomph” to become disappointingly low.

This typically results in guests asking the DJ constantly to “turn it up, we can’t hear it out there on the floor”. To which we can’t as we need to abide by the venues noise level restrictions.

On the flip side, if we CAN turn it up (which is rare), then you have your guests that you seated right next to the speakers complaining that the music is far too loud and constantly asking the DJ to “turn it down, we can’t hear ourselves talking”.

So, one way or the other, placing your DJ anywhere BUT right near the dance floor is a horrible idea.

One would think that most venues and wedding planners by now would have realised this, but the truth is we see it all too often. Sure, the aesthetics of a dance floor perfectly centred in the middle of the room looks great, but it’s just not practical.

So, when working with your wedding venue, ask to see the floorplan and if they have the DJ pushed to another area ask them if they can please make the dedicated dancefloor where the DJ is.

It just makes sense!

We hope this tip has been useful and look forward to answering any questions you might have about your event.
